Comedy Central Plans Blasphemous Cartoon about Jesus while censoring any reference to Muhammad

Biblical Principles

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

There has been a good amount of media coverage about Comedy Central’s “South Park” cartoon and an episode’s mockery of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and the subsequent death threats that were sent out towards South Park’s creators and the Comedy Central Network. This was followed by Comedy Central then censoring the following episode of South Park from any mention of the name Muhammad on the show.

Yet just days after respecting Muslims by their censorship, Comedy Central has announced plans to potentially create (the show is still under consideration among a group of programs) a new cartoon series called “JC” which makes a mockery of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is Comedy Central’s Description:

“JC,” the go-to name for both the show and its main character, follows Jesus as he seeks to “escape the enormous shadow” of his “all-powerful yet apathetic father,” who “would rather be playing video games than listening to JC recount his life in the city.”

The South Park show has depicted Jesus in mocking, insulting and blasphemous fashion in the past, so this is common practice. To depict Jesus as this cartoon is proposing is obviously offensive to the faith. But how ironic that Comedy Central is doing this right after censoring every reference to Muhammad? Why is Christianity fair game for this network but they went out of their way to respect Islam? Especially for a network that proclaims to be so “edgy” and “daring.” They have clearly gone the conservative route when it comes to respecting Islam. Why not show the same respect for all religions?

I can only ask that fellow Christians pray for the executives at Comedy Central and the cartoonists who may be lined up to work on this show. Pray that they come to see Jesus for who He is — the Son of God and the Savior who died on the cross for their sins and was raised three days later, so that they can be raised to eternal life if they believe on Him. Jesus did not live in New York, but He did indeed lower Himself voluntarily to be born in a man’s body and live with us, cry with us and suffer with us and for us. He was tempted like every human being was so He can now stand at God’s Right Hand and be our advocate.

So pray for their salvation and for them to reconsider their decision. And also pray for their safety. It is times like this when the love of Christ should be given in abundance. Let’s not give those who blaspheme The Lord our anger. Just because people may show increasing anti-Christian bias they should not receive our ridicule in return. Instead give them love, compassion and The Gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ can change the worst persecutor of Christians into one of the greatest apostles. And it can turn an entire empire upside-down. It can certainly work on the hearts of a few people who may want to mock The Lord instead of truly getting to know Him.
